... continued from above... if we want pure, super-high key white background, or a deep, perfect, solid black background (or any other tone, color or shade), why would we want to gat a black and a white muslin (or paper, or whatever) and do all the difficult work of achieving that pure color optically, when the easiest way to get that is to shoot with a ChromaKey and drop in any color we want - without having to buy a single muslin. "But what if we want one of the standard old muslin designs?" "Or what about special colors, or multiple colors?" An old photographer once asked about. Well, buy yourself a disk of digital backdrops for less than one, single muslin, and you'll have over 1,000 backgrounds in every color and design you can imagine, I told him. Then

Why do we want to delete the backgrounds of our pictures? Because in today's age of computers and digital photography and digital videography and movie making, we have the power to mould reality into whatever we can imagine! Sometimes, it's as simple as deciding our subject would look better with a light blue background instead of the dark blue one we used when making the portrait. Other times, we it to look like our subject is in a place or location other than where they really are. It might be on a tropical island at sunset, or floating in the universe with Saturn's rings behind them. Other times, we just may want a deep, solid black background or a pure, totally white background (without having to arrange special lighting set ups and determine and use arcane camera settings to try to achieve this optically - and usually end up having to retouch it in PhotoShop anyway). So what a ChromaKey backdrop does, is give you a background color that's easy to select and delete in a photo editing program like PhotoShop, and then you can replace the background with any image, color, or design you like.
